Saving a position - MORE
We have already seen the simple basics of this. Now we'll look in more detail, and in particular we'll look at
averaging, which helps to reduce the error due to Selective Availability; and
entering a name and symbol for the waypoint, which will help you to remember why you recorded the point.
|
 |
Just as before : Check the SATELLITE page and look for the 3D NAV indicator. If 2D NAV or anything else is showing, wait for the receiver to get more data from satellites and maybe move to a place with a better view of the sky.
When 3D NAV is showing, press the MARK button.
| |
The MARK POSITION page appears ...
This time, press the up arrow to highlight AVERAGE? and press ENTER.
| |
The receiver now begins to collect data from the satellites and keeps an average. This continues until you choose to save the waypoint. Watch the number next to FOM or ± , which will go down quickly at first, then more slowly.
The longer you can leave the receiver to collect data the better - several hours would be ideal, but even 10 mins will help.
| |
While the receiver is averaging, you can give the waypoint a name and symbol:
Highlight the number that appeared and press enter, then edit the name and symbol as in the section "Renaming a waypoint".
| |
When you are ready to move on, highlight SAVE? and press ENTER.
